Maasai Cricket Warrior

The inspiration for this canvas has come from the Maasai Cricket Warriors from the Laikipia region in Kenya who have exchanged spears for cricket bats. They are using cricket as a vehicle to empower youth and target social problems in their communities. Their credo is to bat for women's rights, bowl out AIDS and be the warriors against the savage tradition of circumcision of girls in their communities.
The work was produced with the full knowledge and permission of the Maasai Cricket Warriors in the quest to help create awareness of their worthy initiative.
The canvas measures 755mm high x 610mm wide and is painted in acrylic.
The reference for the work is from a photograph of Nissan Jonathan Ole Meshami.
The painting was recently exhibited at the annual Hornsby Art prize exhibition.
